Some drawings take as much time to complete as a full color painting. Such was the case with this one.
My decision to realize the initial idea as a full tonal drawing using pen and ink techniques wasn’t made blindly. I was fully aware of how much time I’d need to devote to see it through to completion.
I believe the unique textural quality obtained by employing networks of finely delineated cross-hatching to build up forms was well worth the effort.
