The interplay of light and shadow with fabric folds is one of my constant fascinations. This digital chalk drawing is a preliminary visual exploration for a painting I have in mind. Such studies teach me how a particular piece of clothing will drape and how light will interact with the folds. It’s part of my process of “thinking aloud on paper” before I commit to a full painting.
And because drawings like these aren’t intended to be “finished”, they allow much freedom and are always a hoot to create.
